MORE ON IMMIGRATION: CULTURAL DIFFERENCES

14 04 2011

Keeping on with the topic of immigration, we watched 2 more videos in class:

* The first one dealt with cultural differences, presenting 5 European students in the United States giving their views about the cultural differences between their own country and the USA, commenting on the first thing that struck them when they first arrived there:

And it goes with a worksheet: VIDEO cultural differences

* The second one intends to give us some advice when working with people from other countries: VIDEO tips for working with people from other cultures

And it also comes with its own worksheet: VIDEO tips for working with people from other cultures.

And to finish, a bit of humour to see the problems cultural misunderstandings may cause:

IMMIGRATION: THE BASICS

6 04 2011

Do you kow a lot about immigration????? Do you think it is a problem or it is on the other hand something that enriches a country? I think that before starting to discuss our opinion about this, it would be a good idea to have some idea of the basic ideas about immigration, so I am supplying a video with the definitions of the most impoortant words related to this topic, which goes with a worksheet I gave to you in class, but which I am including here too in case you could not come to it:

1.- The video:  where an expert explains to us the most important concepts related to this topic.

2.- The worksheet: IMMIGRATION BASICS VIDEO QUESTIONS

3.- The transcript to check your ideas: IMMIGRATION BASICS VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

ARE DOGS SMARTER THAN CATS?

2 04 2011

Keeping on with the topic of pets, we also discussed whether dogs were smarter than cats or it was the other way round. In order to enhance the discussion, we watched another video dealing with a piece of news which seemed to have proved that dogs are smarter than cats,  because they are supposed to be more friendly, which helped them to develop bigger brains. So it seems that intelligence is related to being friendly!!!! What an interesting remark!!!!

Anyway, I am including the video here again with the worksheet we did with it in case you want to profit from it once more or for the first time:

1.- The video

2.- The worksheet: DOGS ARE SMARTER THAN CATS VIDEO SHEET

3.- The transcript: DOGS ARE SMARTER THAN CATS VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Well, if you feel like it, you can even go and try an experiment to check this statement!!!!!
